🥐 Viennese Cookie Recipe - Delicious Flavor That Melts in Your Mouth
This elegant cookie, which spreads from Vienna, the capital of Austria, turns your tea time into a feast with both its appearance and taste. These butter cookies, which take on patterns like the letter “S” or “V” when squeezed on, are much easier to make at home than you think!
📌 Ingredients
For the dough:
- 250 grams of butter (room temperature)
- 100 grams of powdered sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 package of vanilla
- 300 grams of flour
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
For the topping:
- 100 grams of bitter or milk chocolate (optional)
- Powdered pistachios, coconut or colored candies (for decoration)
👩🍳 How to make?
1. Prepare the Butter Mixture: Beat the butter at room temperature and powdered sugar in a deep bowl with a mixer until it reaches a creamy consistency. Then add the egg and vanilla, continue beating.
2. Add the Dry Ingredients: Sift the flour and starch and add them to the mixture. Obtain a soft, slightly sticky dough. If necessary, you can adjust the consistency by adding a little flour.
3. Shape: Put the dough in a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Squeeze it onto a baking tray covered with baking paper in the shape of an “S”, “V” or a straight bar.
Note: If your dough is too hard, it will be difficult to squeeze, if it is too soft, it will not be able to keep its shape.
4. Baking: Bake in a preheated oven at 170°C for about 12–15 minutes, until the edges slightly color. It is essential that the cookies remain white, do not overfry.
5. Decoration: Dip the ends of the cooled cookies into the chocolate you have melted using a bain-marie method. Sprinkle with peanuts or coconut immediately afterwards. Serve when completely cooled.
💡 Tips
- If you use a piping bag with a metal tip to squeeze the cookies, you will get sharper lines.
- The butter should be at room temperature but not too melted.
- It is very important to preheat the oven and not overbake the cookies.
